The American Baptist Churches USA has a category called "Certified Lay Minister."
The Institute for Learning has a 12-course program for preparing those who wish to become Certified Lay Ministers. When a participant has completed the requirements, the Institute for Learning notifies the Region of Vermont and New Hampshire, which grants the status of Certified Lay Minister.
This is NOT a shortcut to ordination. Ordination is performed by the local church working with the Department for Professional Ministry. Anyone hoping to become ordained should contact the Region Office and make an appointment with the Region Minister.
The Certified Lay Minister program provides the education needed for a pastor, chaplain, deacon and other church leaders. Many Certified Lay Ministers are volunteer or part-time, often bi-vocational, and usually serve in small congregations.
To enter the Certified Lay Minister Program, fill out an application and send it to the Chair of the Governing Board, who will arrange an interview with the Governing Board, which meets three times a year on the third Saturdays of August, November, and April.
To learn more about policies and procedures for the Certified Lay Minister Program, read the Handbook. (see Downloadable Documents).
To see when the courses are scheduled, go to the Three-Year-Plan.
